Banjo Rigsby’s Unsolicited Advice for People Who "Think Outside The Box"

Thinking Outside The Box can be a lonely pursuit. Banjo has done it himself from time to time, with varying results. Many people will not appreciate you when you Think Outside The Box. A handful will be impressed. On average, Thinking Outside The Box is worth the effort. However, Thinking Outside The Box can have disastrous consequences and result in ridicule, ostracization, job loss, and poverty. (This might not matter much if you are already an impoverished, unemployed hermit, unless you achieved this state as a result of Thinking Outside The Box. Perhaps you can take some comfort in knowing that as more and more people Think Outside The Box with disastrous consequences, the major pharmaceutical companies will have more incentive to invent medication that helps numb your pain. Your needs will be met one of these days by someone at one of these companies who is Thinking Outside The Box.)

For the sake of humanity, please continue to Think Outside The Box. However, do so with the intent of Changing The Box so that you no longer need to step Outside of It to Think. The problem is not with the Thinking. The problem is with the Box.

Thinking Outside The Box is one thing. Convincing the people who are still Inside The Box doing their own Thinking that they need to consider your Outside The Box Thinking is another thing. This second thing is harder to achieve (see possible disastrous consequences above). Achieving it requires great effort and personal fortitude. You are going to expend great effort anyway. Expend just a little more effort convincing those Inside The Box to help you build a Better Box. If you fail, you can continue to Think Outside The Box whenever you feel like it. If you succeed, all of your Thinking now will occur Inside The Box, which will dramatically improve the likelihood of its solving persistent problems.

Banjo’s Best™ Advice: Think Outside The Box in order to make a Better Box that does not require you to Think Outside of It to come up with innovative solutions to persistent problems. Make a Box roomy enough to accommodate innovative Thinking.
